So the two places we thought would be good for lunch were both closed, and walking to the markets ended up being further than we thought, and it was a bit warm today so it was a little sweaty, and it was a bit busier in town than I like, and my right headphone quit working so I bought new ones and couldn't get the packet open on the train ride home, but even with all that, it was still exactly what I needed. Bless his fabulous self for reminding me that I can smile and laugh and have a good time. post comment

Emerald House Rising by Peg Kerr [29 Dec 2009|11:52am] bookshare [cywrain] Title: Emerald House Rising Author: Peg Kerr Genre: fantasy My thoughts: Lightweight. I had been quite taken by the ideas behind the premise, specifically the patterning of gems that built the Piyar culture and the gemcutter protagonist, but the novel itself was disappointing and I particularly disliked the author's voice. While the worldbuilding is creative and ambitious, it's also very wooden. Kerr has a heavy hand guiding the story along, and the narrating throughout was aggravating. LITERATURE is a community where the common theme is a love for books and writing. Members are placed into one of four teams (the Romantics, the Victorians, the Moderns, and the Contemporaries) where they will work with their team members to collect points. Every few months a chapter of the community will close and the team with the highest points will be declared the winner of that chapter.
